| Description |
Sri
Lanka is one of the premier vacationing scenes for any bird watching
enthusiast. There are 23 to 27 endemic species in Sri Lanka, which
bring the total number of species on the island including the migrant
category to 426. The majority are located in the Rain Forests of the
Eastern hill zone. The
best time of the year for bird watching is from November to April
with the peak period being February and March, which is when the
recorded 198 different species have arrived escaping harsh winter
conditions.
However,
Bird watching is not confined to the above mention months, as many
different varieties of birds e.g. Kingfisher, Jungle fowl, Purple
Rumped Sunbird, Common Drongo and more can be found all across the
island through out the entire year. |
