Places of interest Dalada Maligawa Temple where the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha is enshrined. There are many shrines and temples in and around Kandy. There are plenty of lovely scenic walks around Kandy, one of which leads to the Mahaweli river, where you may see elephants being bathed. Beside the lake there are beautiful displays of local crafts and an auditorium for popular local dance performances.

Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens began as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala King, with its amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers.
